Kindersley

Geography

Kindersley is located in the heart of West Central Saskatchewan. We are 200 kilometres (kms) west of Saskatoon on Highway 7 and 100 kms east of the Alberta border.

History
Kindersley was named for Sir Robert Kindersley, a major stockholder in the Canadian National Railway (CNR) at the time the Town was formed.

Kindersley achieved Village status by the start of 1910, with a population of 300 people.

Kindersley was the first community in Saskatchewan to receive natural gas.

In 1987, Kindersley was proud to play host for a day to Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh. Among the preparations for the Royal visit, the Kindersley airport runway was paved and lengthened to accommodate the Royal party's dash 8 aircraft.

Economic Information
Kindersley's population of 4,700 is home to a huge oil industry and a prime agricultural land base. We are strategically located on the main transportation route from Saskatoon to Calgary. The Kindersley area has an abundance of 3 phase power and excess natural gas. We service a trading district of 40,000 people and have an annual traffic count of over 5 million vehicles.

Kindersley has two grade K-7 elementary schools and one grade 8-12 high school. The Great Plains College offers post-secondary training as well as industry training through the Energy Training Center.
