Kyle

Geography

Kyle is located on the Number 4 highway, midway between Highway No. 7 to the north and the Trans Canada Highway to the south. It is about 45 minutes away from Swift Current and about 2 hours away from Saskatoon. The area boasts some of the best fishing, hunting and camping facilities in the Southwest. The district is home to the Saskatchewan Landing Provincial Park and Clearwater Lake.
Kyle is home to 'Wally' the Woolly Mammoth. This 9 foot 11 inch replica was built in recognition of the woolly mammoth unearthed in the area in 1964.

History
Kyle became a hamlet in 1923, a village in 1926 and a town in 1958. It got its name from one of the early settlers, Jerry Kyle. The Kyle Brothers established the 'Kyleville' Post Office at their farm, just west of the present town of Kyle, on the 'Battleford Trail' which goes through their farm. Growth and change came in 1923 when the railway came to Kyle. The first volunteer fire brigade was organized and implemented in 1931. Clearwater Lake became a regional park in 1966, when Kyle joined with the government and adjoining municipalities to operate it.

Economic Information
The population of Kyle is 507. The community is surrounded by heavy, rich farmland. There are 67 employers and 35 of those are in the primary industries - farming, oil and gas.

Attractions
Kyle and District has some of the greatest tourist attractions in Southwest Saskatchewan. The district is home to the Saskatchewan Landing Provincial Park, Clearwater Lake, and great hunting and fishing. Every year great events like the Kyle Annual Rodeo, and Kinsmen Walleye Tournament are hosted.

Kyle has many recreational facilties including a Sports Centre that houses a rink and 3 sheets of curling ice, 5 ball diamonds, 9 hole golf course, creative playground, rodeo arena, fitness centre, and museum.

The woolly mammoth that stands in Kinsmen Park was built in 1981. In October of 1964 the bones of the mammoth were unearthed by a scraper blade during road construction. The bones were determined to be about 12,000 years old. The cement replica stands 9 feet 11 inches.

Kyle has a beautiful school that houses children in Kindergarten to Grade 12. There is also a private play school. There are regional college services offered in Kyle as well.

Kyle has a Health Centre, Medical Centre and offers an ambulance service.

Kyle has something for everyone as there are many community and recreational groups you can belong to including the Kinsmen, Elks, Legion, 4H Club, minor baseball, figure skating, curling club, scouts and guides, gymnastics club and fishing and game league.

Kyle has a community airport with a 915 m paved lit runway.
