Unity

Geography

The Town of Unity is located at the intersection of Highways 21 and 14 as well as the intersection of the Canadian Northern Railway (CNR) and the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) main rail lines. The Town of Unity is 200 kilometres (kms) west of Saskatoon, 375 kms east of Edmonton, 100 kms south of North Battleford, and 100 kms north of Kindersley.

History
The Town of Unity was incorporated in 1909 as a Village and 1919 as a Town. The Town was founded by Wisconsin settlers from Unity, Wisconsin. The first commercial potash deposit and mine in Canada were developed at Unity. The first rural radio broadcast station was constructed at Unity. The first natural gas transmission station and user system was developed at Unity.

Economic Information
The Town of Unity includes 2,425 residents as of the 2002 Saskatchewan Covered Health Statistics. Major industries in Unity are agricultural production and service, salt mining, oil and gas development, health services, educational services, financial services, and subsequent service industries.

Attractions
The Town of Unity contains a variety of recreational complexes including a skating arena, curling arena, softball diamonds, 9-hole grass, green golf course, swimming pool, tennis courts, BMX track, and Motocross track (coming soon). As well, there are several annual events held in Unity including the Western Days (1st weekend in June), Canada Day Celebration and Fireworks, Chamber of Commerce Recognition Banquet, Fall Fair and Trade Show, and Santa Claus Days. The Unity and District Heritage Museum holds many historical buildings, documents, antiques, and working machinery and vehicles.
