Geography

Alsask, a little town in the middle of...EVERYWHERE!

Alsask is located on one of the busiest highways in Canada, at the junction of Highway #7 and Highway #44 right on the Saskatchewan and Alberta border. This community is 3 hours east of Calgary, 2 hours north of Medicine Hat, 2 hours west of Saskatoon, 3 hours south of Lloydminster, 4 hours northwest of Regina and 5 hours south of Edmonton. In 3 hours shopping in almost any city can be found.

History
Alsask has acquired the old airforce base, which was operational from 1962 until 1987 and is starting to utilize its many buildings.

Alsask also acquired the old Military Dome site located just north of Alsask; this radar station was in operation until 1992. It is one of the three remaining of its kind in Canada and has been marked as a heritage site. It has become a symbol of Alsask.

Economic Information
Alsask's population has been fluctuating between 125 and 200 with a farming population of over 250. It is a small town that is climbing back in numbers.

There are a number of businesses providing a variety of products and services to the surrounding area in several different markets. The community also has endless economic development possibilities. With lots of commercial and residential lots for sale, and because the town is on the border, the possibilities for business are endless.

Attractions
Alsask has lots of recreation options. The town has a bowling alley with two lanes that houses both a men's and ladies' bowling league through the winter. The bowling alley is also available for public use throughout the entire year. The town also has a darting league that runs through the winter.

In the spring and summer, residents and visitors can enjoy the indoor swimming pool. The Gopher Dip Pool offers one of the best swimming instructors in the country. People come from as far as Calgary and Regina to have their children taught by this amazing instructor.

During the summer, residents can also spend time at the craft center taking pottery classes and doing wood working.

Alsask has a gymnasium that holds 450 people which is perfect for big functions, and a town hall that holds 150 people for more intimate functions.

Alsask has many clubs that are always looking for new members and new endeavors. The Alsask Lioness Club collectively decided to join the Communities in Bloom in order to put pride back into this wonderful community. Other clubs in town consist of the Merry Makers, Quilting Club, Lions, Community Club and UCW to mention a few.

Alsask is where wild rose country meets the land of the living skies, and it continues to strive to make the village a great place to live and work.
