The Village of Hepburn, Saskatchewan is a growing community located 50 kilometres (kms) north of Saskatoon on Highway #12. Ten kilometres west of Hepburn flows the North Saskatchewan River. The community is surrounded by farmland.
History
The Village came into existence on July 5, 1919.
The railroad was constructed and commenced operations in the summer of 1909. Mr. Rowitt Hepburn applied for a post office on his farm. In order to get one he had to submit a name for the post office. So Mr. Hepburn and Mr. Henderson, a teacher in the area, decided on the name 'New Home' as first choice and 'Hepburn' as second choice. They promptly received a reply stating that there was already a post office named 'New Home' and that their second choice would be verified.
Today, we have two historical sites in the community. One is the Museum of Wheat, which is the former Pool elevator. Guided tours are available which tell the story of wheat in an attempt to preserve our rich history. The second is the Hepburn School. It was completed in the fall of 1927 and is still in use today. A room has been set aside with the memorabilia of yesteryears.
