Government of Saskatchewan Western Red Lilies

Meyronne

Geography

Meyronne is located about a mile off #13 Highway. The Great Western Railroad travels by the Village from the east and west and branches off to the north.

History
In 1908 the area was open to homesteaders, but many squatters arrived earlier. The Village was incorporated in 1913 with the arrival of the railroad. In the earlier days, the Village was very active with lots of people and many businesses.

Presently there are around 40 people in the Village itself. A large percentage of the people are middle age to older citizens. In recent years some people who grew up here moved away during their working years and have come back to retire. Others have come as visitors and enjoyed the quiet pace of life and decided to move here and make it home.

Economic Information
Meyronne is a farming community although there are other businesses operating in the area. Most of these are agricultural services, trucking grain, and cattle. We have a barbeque catering service, which works in this region but also travels to others.

Village businesses consist of the Co-op Bulk and Hardware Store, Credit Union, and Post Office. Other services offered are a Roman Catholic Church, People of Praise Church, recreation centre and hall, two-lane bowling alley, playground with picnic tables available, and a campground with power and utilities.

Grocery services are available one mile from the Village in Kincaid, and a larger shopping area is 40 miles away in Assiniboia. Children go to school in Kincaid by bus and also use the Kincaid & District Community Rink for winter activities.
