Gravelbourg No. 104

Geography

The Rural Municipality (RM) of Gravelbourg (No. 104) is located 73 miles southwest of Moose Jaw. It consists of 9 townships of good agricultural land characterized with brown soil, suitable for many crops. The Wood River and Notukeu Creek run through the RM. The Hamlet of Bateman is located in the northwest area of the RM. There are approximately 400 people in the RM of Gravelbourg to compliment the 1,200 people that live in the Town of Gravelbourg.

History
The RM of Gravelbourg was incorporated in 1912; previously it existed as a Local Improvement District (L.I.D.) from 1908.

Economic Information
The RM of Gravelbourg is characterized by its fertile soils, making the area a prime location for agricultural production. The area is diversified in agriculture featuring staple crops such as wheat, durum, and barley but also peas and lentils.

Attractions
The RM of Gravelbourg is rich with history. There are significant heritage sites located in the municipality such as the St. Elizabeth Church (NW6-11-6 W3M) and the Crippled Creek Crossing Site.

The RM hosts a small lake resort called Gaumond Bay, 6 miles south of the Town of Gravelbourg. This resort is adjacent to Thomson Lake Regional Park.

The RM shares many of the recreation facilities with the Town of Gravelbourg. These include bowling, curling, dancing, skating, a movie theatre, and swimming facilities.

Postal service is available in the Hamlet of Bateman. The Hamlet also has a fire hall, museum, and an active Lions Community Hall.

Health care including doctors, dentists, ambulance service and hospital is provided largely through the Town of Gravelbourg.
