Antelope Park No. 322

Geography

Four small communities anchor the Rural Municipality (RM) of Antelope Park's corners: Hoosier, Loverna, Major, and Compeer. Alta, Fusilier, and Court are also part of the municipality.

History
The name of the municipality is a descriptive one. It is apt, as the rolling hills and tree bluffs throughout the RM make the area a haven for wildlife.

The Village of Loverna - Area homesteader W.K. McFarland requested that the new town site, the last station on the Saskatchewan side of the line, be named Loverna after a married daughter, Mrs. Loverna George, who lived in the United States. Loverna has an All Saints Anglican Church. Well-known pioneer Minister Archdeacon W. Dacre Hasell was the incumbent for many years. Especially noteworthy is the interior of the church and its fine woodwork, which resembles an English country church.

Hoosier - Located 20 kilometres (kms) north of Marengo on Highway 317; it is on the SE 31-27 W3.

Many settlers in the area came from the state of Indiana and the community was named after the nickname for people from that state at the suggestion of Orva Sale, the first secretary of the municipality.

Economic Information
The RM of Antelope Park's nine townships contain a large community pasture in the center surrounded by grain and livestock operations.
