History
One of Saskatchewan's largest rural municipalities with approx. 21 townships, the RM of Chesterfield was formed in 1968 by the amalgamation of the RMs of Royal Canadian #261 and Mantario #262. It is named after Chesterfield House, the early 19th century Hudson's Bay Company post located at the confluence of the Red Deer and South Saskatchewan Rivers in the southwest corner of the municipality. The municipality is archeologically rich with aboriginal artifacts.
Economic Information
Grain farming and ranching form the agricultural industry with oil being found in the northwest portion. The RM of Chesterfield had a taxable assessment of $7.8 million in 2001, 18.20% from oil, the rest from agriculture.
