Glenburn Regional Park is the original site of the Eagle Hills Post, built in 1778 by a group of independent traders on the banks of the North Saskatchewan River. In earlier days, liquor was widely used by traders to enhance trade deals. In 1779, violence erupted at Eagle Hills post when two free traders, Coleman and Pangman, were caught using diluted alcohol in trade. Coleman was killed and Pangman abandoned the post. The post was never rebuilt, however the liquor trade continued.
| | Economic Information | The major industry is agriculture, both grain and livestock production for the resident population of 316.
| | Attractions | Glenburn Regional Park is located 12 kms south of Maymont. The park offers a campground, man-made swimming pond with natural spring water, 9-hole golf course with sand greens, beach area, picnic area, pond, creek and river fishing, and nature hiking trails. The park is located near the site where the Maymont ferry operated from 1926 to 1975. When the ferry discontinued it was used to form a bridge over the creek between the park and the golf area. The Community Sports Centre in Maymont provides an ice rink for figure skating, curling, hockey, and other recreational activities for area residents.
Ruddell is home to several ceramic artisans. The Ruddell Sculpture Park displays local artwork and provides a wood-firing kiln for artisans to complete art forms using this ancient practice. Workshops are held annually for prairie sculptors to develop this skill.
Ruddell is also the home of Saskatchewan author, Barbara Klar. In 1994, her first book, The Night You Called Me A Shadow, won the Gerald Lampert Award for the best first book of poetry in Canada. She also placed third in the Sterling Writing Award competition in 1998.
