Stonehenge No. 73

Geography

The Rural Municipality (R.M.) encompasses 10 ½ townships with approximately 247,780 acres of land. The Village of Limerick and the Hamlet of Congress are located within its boundaries. The current population of the municipality is 545.

History
The earliest local government in what is now the Rural Municipality of Stonehenge No. 73 was established in 1908. However, the district was not officially declared a rural municipality until December 11, 1911.

The name of the municipality, Stonehenge, was given by E.A. Craddock who was the first R.M. Administrator. Mr. Craddock was originally from England and his home was about eight miles from the Stonehenge monument on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, England.

Economic Information
The municipality has two elevator terminals, two seed processors, seed cleaning plant, hopper bottom manufacturing, refrigeration service, auctioneer service, millwork and cabinetmaker, bull test station and 4 trucking companies. There are also two farm implement dealers and an agricultural based business in the R.M.'s industrial park located near Assiniboia at the junction of Highway No. 2 and No. 13.
