Choiceland

Geography

Choiceland is located approximately 100 kilometres (kms) northeast of Prince Albert and is 1 km north of the junction of highways #55 and #6. The Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) also serves the town. With the Torch River and Narrow Hills Provincial Park located directly north of the town. Choiceland is on the edge of true frontier wilderness.

The natural terrain of Choiceland is quite flat, with a few moderate rolling hills in the northwest corner of town. Choiceland and district is well treed and is set in some of the most beautiful farming country in the west.

Choiceland enjoys the lifestyle of small town Saskatchewan with the availability of services of larger centres. This area provides a wonderful opportunity for new residents and new businesses to grow and progress.

History
The name Choiceland came about as a description of the lands in the district. It was first used for a school (No. 4036) which was about 6 miles southeast of the present townsite. The name was coined by Peter Rotz, who served as a trustee until 1968.

Economic Information
The community has a thriving business community including a growing number of home-based businesses that have developed over the last few years. Choiceland enjoys the lifestyle of small town Saskatchewan with the availability of those services. This area provides a wonderful opportunity for new residents and new businesses to grow and progress.

The population of Choiceland is 417 (2001) with an assessment of $2.7 million (2001).

Attractions
Choiceland is close to several provincial parks and is the -Choice Route- to the famous Hanson Lake road which is publicized as being an area that is virtually untouched by man. The road cuts through one of the most beautiful provincial parks Saskatchewan has to offer, Narrow Hills Provincial Park.

Skating Rink and Curling Rink:
Choiceland is not only noted for its curling enthusiasm but for the ability of its curlers. The new three-sheet rink of artificial ice is used by young and old from October to April.

The community also operates a skating rink where residents of all ages can participate in several ice activities ranging from hockey to ringette and figure skating.

The Wapiti Valley Ski Area is located a short 25 kms south of Choiceland and serves as an excellent downhill ski facility.

Cross-Country Skiing:
Cross-country skiing is also very popular with young and old in this area and it is offered as a recreational program through the school system.

5 Baseball Diamonds:
For the avid ball player there are hard and softball teams which one may join.

Paddling Pool:
There also is a paddling pool in town for younger people to enjoy during the summer months.

Campgrounds: 12 stalls
A new campground park (located 2 miles south of Choiceland on Highway #6) has also been developed. The Town also has several active groups and clubs.

Senior Community Hall:
An active Senior Citizen's organization meets once a week and provides activities and/or use of the hall on close to a daily basis. At the Recreation Centre located at the Senior's Housing area, residents often are found visiting and enjoying cards or a board game.

Bible Camp:
Located 6 miles Southeast of Choiceland is Torch Trail Bible Camp. This camp is equipped with a full-size swimming pool, which is also made available to the general public. During the month of June, the school incorporates swimming into its educational program and also utilizes the camp facilities.
