The Village of Goodsoil is located on Highway #26 North, 85 kilometres (kms) east of Cold Lake, Alberta and 78 kms west of Meadow Lake on Highway #55. Goodsoil is the Central Gateway to the Meadow Lake Provincial Park.
History
Goodsoil started in 1926 when Father J. Shultz and F.J. Lange Sr. initiated the provision of much needed land. People flowed into the new St. Boniface Colony from the older Roman Catholic German speaking Colonies in Saskatchewan, Western Europe, and from the United States of America. Together they built Goodsoil.
Historical Sites include: Goodsoil Historical Museum, St. Boniface Parish, and Lady of the Lake (a pretty little Chapel built in the 1950's located on Lac des Isles in the spruce of Big Island). Another interesting site is the Cairn, which is the place where wood Cree Indians released their white prisoners after the Riel Rebellion in 1885.
