Primate

Geography

The Village of Primate is situated approximately 11 kilometres (kms) east of Macklin on Highway 31. It has a population of 85 and was incorporated as a Village in 1922. Primate got its name for the Latin word primus, which means first. When the first homesteaders came to Saskatchewan to settle and build a new community, they had a feeling of being first although the Native Canadians were already here. Nevertheless, because they felt that way the community was called Primate.

Economic Information
The border location of the community provides the residents the best advantages of two provinces. Economic growth within the region has been in agriculture and oilfield related businesses.

The Village has both residential and commercial lots for sale. Average price for lots in the Village of Primate is $750.00. An average 3-bedroom home sells for $20,000 to $40,000. Municipal taxes on the average home are $450.00. New construction is welcomed.
